Rail embedding compound (bitumen-based)

This material reduces vibration, its long-term performance (depending on its particular quality, either "slightly elastic" or "elastic") is moderate to good, and it provides good electrical insulation. Installation while rail traffic is still running is not recommended for this material. Due to its relatively good qualities as a whole and the comparatively low costs, bitumen-based embedding material is often used. Care should be taken when casting the materials, which must be applied hot, because the rails will expand in the warmth thus created and must therefore be fixed.
