Use of primers

A primer, also known as a basecoat, is used when a paint, adhesive or coating is to be applied for example to the edge of a joint. As a rule, the material is not applied immediately after the underlying surface was created, which means that dirt or moisture on the surface is to be expected. The moisture or dirt produces a separating layer that prevents a permanent bond. Cleaning and drying the underlying surface, for example when working on the edge of a joint, is therefore essential for a good quality joint.

The use of a primer means that unavoidable dust is bound and a flawless bond can be produced, even for cut or milled edges of road surfaces etc. However, coarse dirt and moisture must also be removed before any application of primer, even if it is always possible to find statements to the contrary. It is however relatively unimportant whether the work is done with a primer on a bitumen base such as our  Corrisol Spezial or with a synthetic primer such as our TOK-Primer SK TOK-Primer SK has the advantage of a shorter drying time and a smaller quantity required, but as regards other technical qualities the products are as good as equal in value. We have sold both products successfully for years and they have proved their value in use.
