TOK® ARMABIT
Asphalt reinforcement to bridge cracks and minimize deformation in traffic lanes and other surfaces.
Description
TOK® ARMABIT consists of a glass fleece weave combined with a glass fiber lattice with very high tensile strength (130 KN/m laterally and longitudinally) set into a bitumen line. The bitumen line is protected by a film that is burned off with a gas burner immediately before laying.
Uses
TOK® ARMABIT is used as an asphalt reinforcement in limited areas of cracks to minimize deformation or similar damage of wearing courses. Laying is carried out manually at the location of the weak points. In an international trial, TOK® ARMABIT was compared with conventional reinforcements and achieved outstanding results. In a further trial it was demonstrated that TOK® ARMABIT increases the resistance of bituminous coatings to dynamic deformation by a factor of 7 to 8.
Delivery and packaging
TOK® ARMABIT is supplied in rolls 1.00 m and 0.50 m wide. The rolls are 20.00 m long. Other dimensions for large-scale orders on request.
Application guidelines
1. Preparation of underlying surface
As a rule, it is possible to dispense with adhesive in areas where TOK® ARMABIT is to be applied, as the material has already been enriched with approx. 800 g of bitumen per m2. Suitable measures must be taken to free concrete surfaces and milled asphalt surfaces from dust, and pre-spraying with a polymer-modified bitumen emulsion (e.g. C 60 BP1-S, use approx. 200-400 g/m2, solvent free, or similar). This will also be necessary on old, worn-down asphalt surfaces in order to achieve sufficient adhesion to the underlying surface.
2. Application
TOK® ARMABIT is unrolled manually at the location of the weak point. The protective film is flamed away and TOK® ARMABIT is thereby bonded by the bitumen applied. Rolling can then be carried out using a rubber-wheel roller or similar equipment.
