TOK® ARMABIT asphalt reinforcement
If cracks from the substrate start breaking through into the covering layer, using an asphalt reinforcement is, in many cases, an economical and sensible solution.
The reinforcement needs to meet certain demands so as to prevent the formation of new cracks.
In practice, products with glass fiber content, for example, have proved to be of value; these have a very low elastic limit of about 3%. The tensile force should be at least 120 KN/m, and it should be possible to fix the reinforcement securely in position on the substrate.
The TOK® ARMABIT combination, consisting of a glass fiber woven mesh with a glass fiber fleece, is a well-tested product: it is integrated into a supporting layer using bitumen.
Trials by official institutes have demonstrated the effectiveness of the reinforcement. These studies discovered that the technical lifetime of the reinforced asphalt surface was extended seven to eightfold compared with an unreinforced reference sample.
Our TOK® ARMABIT meets these requirements.
